It’s that time of the year again when we’ve “fallen backward” into daylight savings. If you’re like me, you might be slightly dreading the darker days ahead, but guess what? It’s also the perfect opportunity to embrace our inner morning person and finally achieve that morning routine we’ve been dreaming about.

But what about your brand? There’s something else that you might be sleeping on: Trends. Keep reading to see how even the most unexpected trends and events, like daylight savings, can be leveraged for your brand’s benefit.

Daylight savings means the days are getting shorter, and, naturally, darker. But instead of hitting that snooze button, why not make the most of these extra morning hours? This is your golden opportunity to become a morning person – or at least fake it until you make it.

Morning and productivity routines have become a massive trend on social media. Whether it’s influencers sharing “day in the life” videos, professionals giving us a sneak peek into their morning rituals (#GRWM videos), or moms showing how they sneak in their self-care while their toddler is napping, these ‘morning person’ lifestyles are all the rage.

Now, some of you might be thinking, “How does this apply to my B2B tech brand?” The truth is, every trend can be harnessed to your advantage. That’s what differentiates a brand that thrives on social media from one that confines itself.

One of the essential parts of my job as Manager of Social Media here at Hotwire is tracking trends. While there are tons of tools and software out there, sometimes the best trend-spotting resources are right in front of us – on our own social media feeds.

Here’s the deal: Trends often start small, hidden in comments or hashtags on platforms like X, TikTok, and Instagram. It’s crucial to have your eyes and ears wide open to catch these early sparks. They might seem insignificant at first, but they can snowball into something big, and you want your brand to ride that wave before your competitors even notice it.

Every Conversation Matters

The world of social media is unpredictable, and even the most minor conversations can turn into massive trends overnight. Whether it’s a viral meme, a quirky hashtag, or an unexpected news event, everything has the potential to shape the digital landscape.

So, why should brands care? Jumping on a trend can skyrocket your brand’s visibility and engagement. Consider this: When you actively engage in a conversation gaining momentum, your chances of being recognized and valued by your target audience increase. According to Sprout Social, when customers feel connected to brands, more than half of consumers (57%) will increase their spending with that brand and 76% will buy from them over a competitor.

This not only establishes authenticity and genuineness but also infuses a sense of vibrancy and relatability. After all, people prefer to collaborate with people, or brands with great personalities.

How This Works for You

Here’s the secret: It’s not always about being directly relevant. It’s about being creative, fun, and joining conversations that matter to your audience.

Daylight savings may not seem like an obvious fit for your niche, but it holds untapped potential your brand may be sleeping on. As the clocks fall backward, signaling shorter days, launch a campaign connecting daylight savings with efficiency. Create engaging content encouraging your audience to share “time-saving” moments with your tech solutions. Showcase how your tech can make a difference in their morning routines. By participating in this active conversation, you’re humanizing your brand and showing your audience that your tech is the force behind time-saving moments they can appreciate.

You can make even the most distant trends work for your brand in any industry, with a little creativity and relevance sprinkled in. It’s about crafting an engaging narrative and revealing unexpected connections between daily life and what your brand or respective product can offer.

Conclusion

Trends come and go faster than you can say “viral.” But by staying ahead of the game and tracking even the smallest conversations, your brand can take advantage of unexpected opportunities. So, as we prepare to spring ahead into daylight savings, remember that it’s not just our clocks that are changing – it’s also our chance to change the game for our brands by not keeping them confined to what they’re “supposed” to post about.

So, go ahead and be that morning person you’ve always wanted to be. And when you’re sipping your morning coffee, keep your eyes open for those trending conversations and happenings. After all, in the world of social media, the early bird catches the most worms (and the most impressions!)
